Vertical Furniture is an innovative furniture system that allows users to assemble and disassemble furniture without the need for tools or fixings. The unique feature of this design lies in the installation of elastic O-ring tension band fittings, which enable uncompromising use of the furniture when assembled. Each furniture piece's individual components can be stored away in a flat, wall-mounted panel after disassembly, creating more versatile floor space and utilizing unused wall space.

The tension band fittings are circular in shape and can be stretched and then retain their original shape. This addition allows for the furniture to be as durable and usable as conventionally manufactured furniture that has been mechanically and chemically fixed together. Unlike other similar systems, Vertical Furniture offers uncompromising use, meaning it can be used in the same manner as similar furniture that has been manufactured conventionally.

The initial fabrication of Vertical Furniture involves using 16mm BB Hoop Australian-made plywood sheets. Each product requires three 2400mm x 1200mm sheets of ply. The furniture components are cut out of the plywood sheets, and the intact waste material is saved to cast the GFRC (High-performance glass fiber reinforced concrete) version of the same components for outdoor use. The furniture components are assembled by the user without the use of any tools, using through tenon joints, slot joints, and O-rings.

Vertical Furniture offers a range of products, including a dining table, bench seats, and stools. The design possibilities are only limited by the human imagination and the size of a standard sheet of plywood. The initial concept was sketched in the first half of 2015, and since then, Vertical Furniture has been exhibited and recognized at various international events, including Furnitex in Melbourne, Furniture China in Shanghai, and TENT London.

The need for more versatile and space-saving furniture solutions has become increasingly important as houses and living spaces continue to shrink. Vertical Furniture addresses this need by providing a practical and innovative design that maximizes the use of small spaces.
